On the First Day of the Week…

On the first day of every week, each of you is to set something aside in keeping with whatever he gains, saving it up at home, so that when I come, no collections will need to be carried out.

1 Corinthians 16:2 EHV

When St. Paul was organizing a collection of funds in order to support the Church in Jerusalem which was afflicted by a famine, he sent information to the churches with some practical advice. He suggested that on the first day of the week each family should set aside some funds, as they are moved to give, so that they may have something ready when he comes.

While this is not a law that is binding in all times and in all places for the Church, it is a very good practice. It is something which is in good order and helpful in order to ensure that the Church is supported and thus able to carry out all her work.

During these times, some may be wondering how we can do this, as we are not currently meeting. There are a number of ways to continue to support Our Saviour at this time. One can mail in a cheque. This is something that has continued throughout this pandemic, according to God’s grace, and for that we are thankful. But did you know that you can also sign up for pre-authorized giving? This is an easy and orderly way to ensure that the congregation continues to be able to do all that it is in service of the Gospel. It takes very little time to set up and it is both safe and secure. In addition, it ensures that no matter what is happening, you will be able to continue to support the ministry of the congregation. If you are not happy with it you can stop at any time. For more information regarding pre-authorized giving please contact the office here.

We know that many of you have already been supporting our congregation during this time and we are very thankful. Even though we are not meeting now, the work of the Church continues. May God continue to bless you.
